Diagnostic Services
A full onsite laboratory provides rapid evaluation of blood, urine and fecal samples. We can perform full metabolic panels, urinalysis and fecal evaluations, as well as testing for infectious diseases such as Lyme disease, heartworm disease, feline leukemia and feline aids. We can test for pancreatitis, thyroid function, and evaluate blood clotting times. Diabetic monitoring, progesterone testing for breeding timing, testing for pregnancy confirmation and monitoring phenobarbital levels can all be performed on site.
To complement our in house lab and to dramatically expand the repertoire of diagnostic tests available to us, we partner with multiple send out laboratories to provide the highest level of services available in the veterinary industry. Digital radiology provides the highest resolution images. Artificial intelligence algorithms provide rapid assessment to enhance radiograph interpretation. Board certified radiologists are available via telemedicine to provide an additional level of expertise when required.
We have state of the art ultrasound equipment on site for both echocardiograms and abdominal scans. Ultrasound uses sound waves which can provide more intricate and detailed evaluation of soft tissue structures than radiology. We have trained veterinarians and veterinary technicians who
can capably perform these scans which offers flexible and convenient scheduling. Board certified veterinarians provide expert analysis and interpretation of all of our scans within 24 hours and can provide full reports for emergency cases within four hours.

Dentistry Services
Dental disease is the most common condition affecting veterinary patients. 75% of pets have some level of dental disease. To provide proper dental care we need to probe and evaluate both the inside and outside of the tooth as well as the tissue under the gingiva (the gumline). A full set of digital radiographs will enhance our understanding of the tooth roots and the health of the tissue beyond our visual field. To perform a complete oral exam, sedation is required. A thorough dentistry addresses the tartar on the crown and, even more importantly, diseased periodontal tissue between the root and the gingiva. Periodontal disease harbors bacteria leading to undesirable odor and creating a constant source of stress to the immune
system.
Periodontal disease also compromises the integrity of the tooth in the socket and leads to tooth loss. To safely handle the sensitive soft tissues in your pets mouth, to perform any extractions that may be required, and to protect the hands of the veterinary staff performing dental work, anesthesia is a necessity.
The level of anesthetic delivered will be as light as possible to facilitate a thorough dentistry with minimal risk to our patients. Local anesthetics are used to perform complicated extractions which enhances our patient’s comfort and also minimizes the requirement for deeper levels of sedation. Blood pressure and heart rate monitors and experienced technical staff monitor your pet throughout the dentistry and through recovery. Pre-anesthetic bloodwork is available to ensure your pet is fit for anesthesia and may be required for older patients. Intravenous fluids are also provided for older patients who may require additional support during sedation. In addition, heating pads warm your pet to ensure a rapid and comfortable recovery.
Fredon Animal Hospital performs 10-12 dental procedures a week and at least half of these procedures are performed on senior patients. We understand our clients have concerns about sedating their pets and want you to feel confident that we are very experienced and comfortable performing these procedures even on our geriatric patients.
Auxiliary Services
Fredon Animal Hospital has implemented cryotherapy as an option for removal of small growths which can avoid the use of anesthesia. Phovia is a new tool that utilizes different wavelengths of light to control infection and encourage healing. This procedure is short and pain free and we are pleased to add this novel treatment method to our services.
